When most people think of the Florida Keys, the most famous of the isles, Key West, typically comes to mind. At least that was the case for me. But long before you reach the end of the 113-mile Overseas Highway, you come upon captivating Key Largo.

Playa Largo Resort & Spa is the island’s only luxury resort and the newest in the past 21 years. The expansive property features 177 guest rooms, 10 private two-bedroom bungalows and a private beach house. The best part, though, is that it doesn’t feel enormous. From the beach hammocks and poolside canopies to the quiet walkways throughout, there are plentiful private areas to make you feel completely relaxed and removed from the rest of the world.

There are four on-property dining experiences, each one unique from the next. The full-service Ocean Spa comes complete with a salon and fitness center. And snagging a paddleboard for a sunset workout — or just an excuse to get out on the water — is the perfect way to conclude another great day in Key Largo.
